I can certainly recommend getting hold of an EMU, although it's more ecofriendly to borrow one if you can! I discovered just how inefficient the ancient fridge-freezer was in my rented flat and persuaded the landlord to buy a new one which used a third of the power. Also, my computer and printer were using a lot of power even turned off, so I now make sure they get unplugged at the wall, which has cut my electricity usage by about 5%.
