We should include our pets here!
We should include our pets here!

There are times when I get concerned about how I treat our family fish. We did have 12 at one stage. Sadly they have gone to fishy heaven all bar one who is hanging on.
In our area we have problems with too many nitrates in the water which causes the tanks to green up. We have a plastic tank so it's harder to scrape off. But I know I should at least try.
As it's a special birthday this year for me my wife and I thought what we could do. These ideas ranged from a local willife safari or one further away, a fishing trip and getting a pet reptile. You may have guessed which we went for because of the title.
I have always had an interest in lizards (saw my first self discovered sand lizard last year). We have an excellent store near us and have been doing our research. Our neighbour two doors down works there and has about 40 reptiles in her house which we visited a couple of weeks ago.
To get to the point we've decided on an easier to handle Bearded Dragon. These are the best due to their calm , inquisitive, sociable natures. We're looking at efficiency, where the vivarium comes from etc. They are locally bred reptiles so don't affect the wild stock. We're very excited. We want to demonstrate to our children (7,5,3) that looking after an animal is a way of 'creation caring'.

Wow, Rob, that sounds an amazing pet! And it's a special birthday for me too this year... :-)
