| General travel | | It's a good idea to remind us all about our travel day to day. I use my bike as often as I can and also us my bus pass to travel longer distances. I also used to be a driving instructor several year ago and tend to have a biased view of most Christian drivers. Not only do many want you to go to heaven but they want you to go NOW!. For safety, economic and environmental reasons we should all use our right foot more carefully.Travelling at 60mph on motorways uses considerably less fuel than at 70; thinking ahead so you brake sooner and don't wear your brakes out as quickly. It is also good not to rev your engine to warm it up but allow it to warm up on its own. Check out the following web site: http://www.srtp.org.uk

So much of our car-culture is addictive. I was inspired by a Bristol campaign 'Chooseday' ( see http://www.chooseday.org/start.htm ) and have established at least 1 No- Car Day a week by rediscovering my poor long- fogotten bike. Big strides may start off with small steps!
| Thanks to your email prompt this month about changing travel mode, I decided to omit the car journey to the supermarket as I only wanted a bit of salad (my lettuces are in a production gap and tomatoes are still thinking about it). Instead I cycled to my (fairly) nearby nursery which also sells locally produced fruit and veg. Whilst there I noticed bunches of leek plants for sale too - so there will also be home grown leeks later - I hope.
So that was a 3 green bonus marks trip! Challenge now is to keep it up!

| Let's try to get to London using public transport rather than taxi if at all possible.
| Already booked my train ticket to London for the "Wave". Cost from Lancashire to London - £26
| A friend of mine just visited Edinburgh. Cost of return railway ticket £17 That is 200 miles there and 200 more back.
| Many years ago, I brought a folding bicycle to cycle/train commute between Cheltenham and Bristol. I didn't appreciate then how useful I would find this mixed-mode of transport at other times too. We've now got a 2nd, and take at least one of them with us on holidays, and weekends away. Not only is it eco-friendly, it also gives us more day-to-day freedom.
Have to agree with David about Christian drivers though. When driving, experience has taught me to be much more weary of the car with a fish sign on it as well :o(
