October 2009: Preserve something
Autumn is here: a time traditionally to store up the fruits of the harvest, in preparation for the relatively scarcer Winter months. With supermarkets tracking the seasons round the world we don't need to preserve anything nowadays, but as we look to a future of climate change and peak oil we lose these skills at our peril.
Learn to preserve one thing this month: maybe bottle some apples and pears, or lay down some sloe gin for Christmas 2010! And do use the forum if you need advice. |
